Abstract
The topic of investigation is the phenomenon of electrostatic charging ina hydraulic system. To this end an already existing system test rig as well asa newly developed fast screening test are setup and used in a series of investigations. The system test rig is fitted with a customised measurement system, which allows for an evaluation of the charge density of the hydraulic fluid in the main stream under realistic operating conditions. The object of this investigation is the impact of a temperature, flow rate and pressure variation with fibre glass filter fleeces in two variations in different configurations as instigators of electrostatic charge generation. Using the system testrig, it was possible to show the significant influence of the temperature andflow rate on the electrostatic charging density. The fleece has a significant impact. However, it does not interfere with the impact of the operating conditions. The fast-screening test is a model test, which allows for a resource efficient investigation of hydraulic fluids. Three fluids of the HLP group are investigated at three levels of relative humidity. The model test demonstrates that an increase in relative humidity coincides with an increase in electrostatic charging.
