Verification of the Interoperability of Fluid Power Systems by the Example of Plug-and-Produce
As a result of increasing communication networking and digitalization of machines, their data and functionalities, so-called cyber-physical production systems are emerging, which enable many processes to be analyzed and optimized through increased transparency. The solutions discussed for implementation have so far been described in a very general and abstract manner, so that a broad implementation has not yet taken place and appears difficult. The aim of the project is the development of fluid-technical I4.0 components to support automated commissioning.

Plug-and-produce Fluid Technology I4.0 Components
As shown in the figure, components are created by extending the real components with information models and services in the virtual, so-called Industry 4.0 components. Their availability and use enables a better consideration and integration of almost every component in the respective application scenarios. For the manufacturer- and system-spreading manageability (interoperability) of the services and information these are to be semantically described and suitably present to the respective superordinate use case. The Plug-and-Produce project focuses on commissioning, which is to be supported and automated by the initial creation and use of I4.0-compliant fluid technology components.
Proof of Concept of Plug-and-Produce
The overall objective of the research project is to provide a proof of concept of plug-and-produce by realizing a concrete fluid technology application based on I4.0 compliant components for the validation of the underlying interoperable submodels and technologies used.
During the implementation, current standardizations and existing solutions in this context are especially taken into account, so that the developed models integrate into the regulatory context of Industry 4.0 and are thus open for extensions. In the course of the project, basic services and information models of the systems under consideration will be created, which serve as a blueprint for further fluid technology components. For the realization of the superordinate business model of plug-and-produce, interface descriptions as well as a system for the targeted interaction of the system participants (components, PLC, commissioning engineers, etc.) for the commissioning are created.
By implementation in a demonstrator, one hydraulic and one pneumatic system each should be able to be put into operation as far as possible automatically. The demonstrator will be used to demonstrate the feasibility of the Plug-and-Produce methodology. Furthermore, the technologies and standards used will be validated with regard to the application under consideration. Used features and basic services are directed to the relevant committees.
In the last step, the demonstrator is designed in the form of a test bench so that companies involved in the project can also test their components within the context of the developed methodology. For cross-industry knowledge exchange and increased visibility, it is intended to join the Labs Network Industry 4.0 (LNI4.0), which includes further I4.0 demonstrator platforms.
Cooperation Project
The project is being carried out with experts in the field of process communication, the Institute for Applied Computer Science (IAI) at the TU Dresden. The illustration shows the interrelationships of information technology and fluid technology know-how in the concepts of I4.0 (e.g. RAMI4.0), which is why the research project can be ideally handled in cooperation between the two research centers ifas and IAI.

The project is supported by the FKM - Forschungsfonds Fluidtechnik of the VDMA.
The project is a Testbed of the platform Industry 4.0 of the Federal Government.
